Gallery One: SPRING PLANTING 2013

GREENHOUSE:

Set up 3/17, using heatmat and plastic-draped armature to manage the germination conditions inside the otherwise unheated greenhouse. High temperatures controlled by a fan and vent on a thermostat. Plastic drape is closed at night and the heatmats turned on. Drape MUST be opened in the morning before it gets sunny. (Yes, I burned up an entire seeding one year.) A low-cost, low-tech seedstarting method.

Materials:
Redi-mat in 5' or 10' length
PVC pipe and fittings to make armature
Plastic to cover the table to protect it from water

Greenhouse film to cover seed trays overnight and on dreary days

RAISED BEDS:

Beds covered over-winter with black plastic were ready to plant. The soil was loose and could be hoed; no tilling necessary. Spinach, lettuce, onions, peas and potatoes went in on St. Patrick's Day!
